LifeNet Appoints Dr. Jasintha Mtengezo as Malawi Country Director

Lilongwe, Malawi – Oct. 7, 2019: LifeNet International has welcomed Dr. Jasintha Mtengezo PhD, RN/M, as the new Malawi Country Director. Dr. Mtengezo is a registered nurse and certified midwife and joins LifeNet with more than 25 years of experience in health systems strengthening and healthcare quality improvement as an implementer and director. 

“We are extremely excited to have Dr. Jasintha Mtengezo join LifeNet’s team of committed health professionals,” said David Scheiman, LifeNet’s Vice President of Programs. “She has the perfect combination of an excellent academic background and a wealth of experience, plus being mission-driven to help ensure that everyone, no matter where they are born, has access to high-quality healthcare.”

Dr. Mtengezo completed her PhD in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and also holds a Master of Public Health degree. She has received numerous awards and scholarships such as the Doctoral Degree in Cancer Nursing Research from the American Cancer Society. Before joining LifeNet, Jasintha worked as Director of Educational Programs with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi and as Dean of Faculty at Daeyang University. She also joins the LifeNet team in Malawi with substantial experience working with some of LifeNet’s partners in Malawi, including MBF and CHAM.

As Malawi Country Director, Dr. Mtengezo will build on the solid foundation of LifeNet’s Malawi country program. She will lead LifeNet’s expansion in the country as she strategically develops and directs the implementation of all aspects of LifeNet programming in Malawi.

Already this year, the LifeNet Malawi team has improved the quality of care in more than 160,509 patient visits through 24 partner health facilities. The entire LifeNet team is thrilled to welcome Dr. Mtengezo, who will lead the Malawi program so that thousands more women, children, and men, have access to high-quality, local healthcare.
